About Gayle

As a young woman in my teens I visualized myself living a vibrant life beyond 100 years young.  This vision was motivated by my meeting Hilda Crooks on Mt Whitney trail in 1979 at age 19. “Grandma Whitney '' was on her 17th ascent at age 83 years young when I met her at 10,000 feet with her entourage. Her 1st ascent was at age 66. I told her I wanted to be like her when I was in my 80’s.  Hilda was a lacto-ovo vegetarian and a student of Nutrition and Dietetics.

In 1979 I was already a vegetarian and believed it was the best diet for me at that time. I followed that diet for 37 years, until I did not feel well. I began noticing mild cognitive dysfunctions with brain inflammation, memory issues along with digestive and skin issues. Unable to learn and retain new information, I was feeling poorly, which caused me to seek a M.D. in Phoenix AZ who practiced Anti-Aging medicine. After extensive and expensive tests I was diagnosed with malnutrition and started supplementation, which helped, but not completely.

After earning my degree in Food and Nutrition Science and becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, I studied 100 different diet theories in 2011 and found GAPS and Weston A. Price Foundation.  GAPS stands for Gut And Psychology Syndrome  / Gut And Physiology Syndrome with the gut being the driver for our immune system and health. Following GAPS for 1.5 years helped immensely, I experienced improved mental clarity, energy and digestive processes. I started sleeping better and eventually,   my psoriasis went completely away.  For the past 9 years, I have maintained a mostly keto diet which works well for my O+ blood type. I was feeling much better but something was still off with the way my brain functioned.

Although I did improve, I felt I still had room for improvement in my memory, energy and sleep. I studied Functional Nutrition for 7 years and was having a hard time putting all the pieces together for testing and knowing precisely what to do. I began looking for the best practitioner for me.  A friend introduced me to my current MD at the Farmers Market and she was just who I was looking for. Karen knew exactly what to do and for the last 2 years I have followed her protocol and I am experiencing wonderful improvements in energy  memory, sleep and overall well being.

As a mother of 3 and a grandmother of 4 (3 of my grandchildren live in West Africa with my daughter), I plan to live a long lasting meaningful life. Therefore I can continue to  support my family and those people that I serve.
